Fairuz began her concert performances at the Baalbeck
International Festival (a world-class international cultural festival
launched in 1955) in the summer of 1957. The City of Sun, with its
Roman temples and columns, became the launching pad for the brightest
star of the 20th century. The legendary singer from Beirut would go
on to headline at the most prestigious venues in the world, in a career
that is unparalleled by any other performer. Like Baalbeck’s
ancient temples of Jupiter, Bacchus, and Venus, millions worldwide
would worship at the temple of Fairuz’s voice, as she broke
every record for ticket sales at almost every performance. Her concerts
are routinely attended by heads of state and royalty as they, and
countless others, bow before her ethereal gift.
It has been said that Fairuz is “Baalbeck’s Seventh
Column” and “Our Ambassador to the Stars”, though
in the temple of her voice, she is heaven’s ambassador to
us.
